Welcome to the DDMED website. This service is provided by the Alabama Department of Mental Health and Mental Retardation. Healthcare information is provided for the professional or the family caregiver. The DDMED consultative program provides a roadmap to healthcare professionals who manage persons with intellectual disability and other health problems such as mental illness or neurological disorders. Every patient is different and these guidelines provide basic information but are not meant as treatment protocols for specific patients. The responsible clinician must evaluate each patient and determine which aspects of the program information are appropriate to the individual of concern.
